Your number is yours.
We only share it if you say yes. We never sell it. Here's everything else, in plain words.
The short version
- Your phone number is optional. Leave it blank and everything still works.
- If you add it so the payer can remind you, only the payer of that split sees it.
- Restaurant texts are off unless you tick the box. That restaurant gets your number. Reply STOP anytime to opt out.
- We never sell your number or your info. Not to advertisers, not to anyone.
- We never hold your money. You pay your friend directly on Venmo, Cash App or Zelle.
What we keep
- Your name, so the table can see what you claimed.
- What you had and what you owe, so the math works and the payer can see who's square.
- The payer's Venmo, Cash App or Zelle name, shown to the friends on that split so they can pay them back.
- Your phone number, only if you type it in. More on that below.
- Survey answers (how was it, the occasion, what would bring you back). Restaurants only ever see totals, never your answers.
- A random id your phone makes up for itself, what kind of phone it is, and the link that brought you here. That's how we count visits without accounts. It isn't your name or number.
Your phone number
There are two places you might give it to us.
- For reminders. When you join a split, or when the payer adds you, a number lets the payer text you if you forget to pay. Only that payer sees it. Other friends at the table don't. The payer's reminder comes from their own phone, not from us. We may also text you, through Twilio: your receipt with a link to mark yourself paid, and, only if you tick the box, a reminder 21 and 45 days later to open TabYeah next time you get the bill. Reply STOP to stop our texts.
- For restaurant offers. After the bill is settled, you might see "Want deals from this restaurant?" Nothing happens unless you tick the box and type your number. The box starts unchecked. If you tick it, that restaurant gets your number and can text you. We save the exact words you agreed to, with the date. You'll get at most 4 texts a month. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP anytime, or tap Undo.
Your number is used only for what you said yes to. We never sell it, and we never give it to anyone else without asking you first.
What we never do
- Sell or rent your number or any of your info.
- Text you about anything you didn't say yes to.
- Show your number to the other friends at the table.
- Hold, move or touch the money friends pay you back.
Who else is involved
- Paying back. When you tap Venmo, Cash App or Zelle, you're using their app, under their own privacy policies. We never see your card or bank details.
- Texts from us. Any text we send you is sent by Twilio, under Twilio's privacy policy.
- Reading the receipt. When the payer scans a receipt, the photo goes to Anthropic, whose AI reads the items and prices. We keep the items, not the photo. Anthropic's own privacy terms apply to what they receive.
- Running the site. TabYeah runs on Railway, and our fonts load from Google Fonts, which can see that your phone asked for them.
What your phone remembers
Nobody needs an account. Your phone keeps a few things to save you typing next time: your name, your number if you typed it, the splits you started, and whether you said yes to a restaurant's texts. Clear this site's data in your browser and it's gone.
Keeping and deleting
We keep a split so its link keeps working for everyone at the table. Want your number, your account or a whole split deleted? Email privacy@carteblanche.com and we'll do it.
If you saved a card before, Stripe still holds it and nothing gets charged. Email us to remove it.
Kids
TabYeah is for adults splitting a bill. It isn't meant for anyone under 13, and we don't knowingly keep info about them.
If this changes
We'll update this page and the date at the top. If we ever want to use your number in a new way, we'll ask you first.
We don't take any money from you right now. If that ever changes, we'll update this page before it does.
